Heena Ahmed

Heena supports the NBSAP Forum and the Global Support to NBSAPs project. Heena provides global support to build capacity for NBSAP revision and implementation, supporting UNDP's Enabling Activities team to ensure that the new generation of NBSAPs is in alignment with guidance in Decision IX/8 of the Conference of the Parties to the CBD, as well as with the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
Heena has over three years of experience, supporting UNDP projects with the Government of India, UNDP India, NBSAP Forum and the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), where she provided legal, policy and managerial support to these portfolios. She supported the UNDP-managed GEF-financed Medicinal Plants project implemented by the Government of India, as well as UNDP's Natural Resource Management Project in India. Heena also assisted the Government of India during CoP11 to CBD and coordinated the Ministerial High Level Segment, among other national and international events organized by the Indian Government and UNDP India. Immediately prior to joining the EBD team, Heena served as a Biodiversity Specialist intern supporting the NBSAP Forum and BIOFIN teams.
Heena holds a Master's degree in International Commercial Law, with a focus on business-environment conflicts, from the University of Nottingham, England. She holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Jamia Milia Islamia, India. Throughout law school, Heena interned with prominent Indian law firms, senior advocates and the National Human Rights Commission of India on issues related to human rights, environment, commercial, civil and criminal laws.
