Presentation: The power to change the Earth system – and personal responsibility?

Resource Type:

This presentation describes why and how scientists view our Earth as a system, and what that means for our understanding of global change processes and our capacity to intervene in them. The presenter, Dr. Sarah Cornell of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, describes the distinction between hitting limits and respecting boundaries, reflecting on biophysical processes, societal activities, and the role of knowledge and engagement in navigating sustainable pathways. This webinar and subsequent discussion focused on some of the pressing questions that we are facing:  ways to deal with urgent environmental issues, social differences, and different value systems.

The presentation was delivered during Week 1 of the ‘Introduction to Resilience for Development’ Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) from 31 October through 27 November 2017.
