The NBSAP Forum provides free, web-based learning opportunities that build your professional capacity to develop and implement NBSAPs. We offer over 30 free, self-paced online courses on the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and elements of the NBSAP and 6NR revision and implementation processes. At the end of each course, you will receive a certificate of completion. You can take our courses when and where you like with minimum disruptions in your busy working schedule. Covers aspects related to the Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) implementation, including forming a multi-stakeholder advisory committee, and developing a strategic master plan. It will take you approximately 2-3 hours to complete this course.

Shows how the CBD Programme of Work on Protected Areas applies in a marine environment, and enables protected area planners to increase marine protection, improve the marine protected area network, and reduce threats to the marine environment. This module forms part of the curriculum of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA Goal 4.3). It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Aimed at protected area practitioners and managers who are primarily working with protected area systems. By taking this facilitated course, participants will gain an overview of key issues related to the design and management of protected area systems.

Covers aspects related to governance, equity and benefit sharing (PoWPA Goal 2.1), including best practices for promoting innovative forms of governance. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Includes 19 concise learning modules that are focused on each goal of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas. 

Provides an introduction to designing the legal framework for a national protected areas system and discusses core principles to account for during the design process, such as marine and transboundary protected areas, and protected area connectivity. It will take you approximately 3 hours to complete this course.

Provides an overview of appropriate technology and its relationship to protected area planning, management, assessment and monitoring. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Covers aspects related to integrating protected areas into the wider landscape, seascape and strategies, including the development of conservation corridors, and mainstreaming protected areas into other sectors. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

This course aims to provide a range of practical tools and exemplary best practices that can help managers develop a streamlined approach to protected area management planning. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Covers aspects related to the design of a national protected area network, including instructions on how to conduct an ecological gap assessment. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

 

Covers aspects related to protected area participation, including participation of indigenous and local communities.  It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Covers aspects related to the protected area policy environment, including protected area policies, incentives, and legal frameworks. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Covers aspects related to sustainable finance, including business planning, assessing finance needs, and developing a sustainable finance plan. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

This course covers aspects related to protected area threats, including the prevention and mitigation of invasive species, and conducting threat assessments. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Provides recommendations and guidelines for incorporating climate change aspects into protected area design and management, and highlights the role that protected areas can play in climate mitigation and adaptation. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

Covers aspects related to transboundary protected areas and regional networks, including their establishment, planning, management and assessment. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.

This course covers aspects related to education and awareness (Progrmme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) Goal 3.5), including how to design an effective awareness campaign. It will take you approximately 2 hours to complete this course.
