International Forest Biodiversity, ABS, Mangrove Managment and Community Development Specialist

An International forestry specialist and community mobilization expert, with experience in conservation and sustainable management of forest biodiversity including agro-forestry, community based mangrove restoration and management. Working experience in India, The Maldives, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh in disaster impact and needs assessment, project planning and development, implementing, monitoring and evaluation and rehabilitation of forest and mangrove wetlands altered by cyclonic storms and tsunami. Working experience with FAO of the UN, UNDP, UNDP-GEF, UNEP- GEF, UN system, ADB, CFC, FIDA International, and with forest and revenue departments of 28 states and 7 Union Territories in India. Implemented projects on Biodiversity and Mangroves funded by Government of Finland, SIDA, GTZ, IDRC, CIDA, IPGRI, MacArthur Foundation and Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan, Government of India.

I have been working on community based conservation and sustainable management of forest biodiversity conservation for livelihood enhancement and poverty reduction focusing on research and capacity building of rural and tribal communities and other stakeholders. Well experienced in community mobilized forest biodiversity conservation and sustainable management, Access and Benefit Sharing and agro-forestry development and integrated management in high forests, coastal areas, atolls and mangrove ecosystems.

Community mobilized mangrove management including training and capacity building of stakeholders in conservation and management. Doctoral and Post-Doctoral work in documenting Ethnobotanical data on plant species used in food, medicine and material value and NTFP resources used by tribal communities.

Supervised implementation of project on forest rehabilitation and coastal shelterbelts with timber species and mangroves and developed home gardens. Developed medium and long term strategies and forest policy for forest rehabilitation and management.
