NBSAP Forum webinar on 'How Conservation Planning Can Inform Key Decisions for Advancing and Implementing NBSAPs’ I 26 April 2017 I 8:00 - 9:30 am Eastern Daylight Time (New York). Register here: https://goo.gl/MYR0so. The Webinar will be hosted by: Dr. Craig Groves, Executive Director for the Science for Nature and People Partnership, which is a collaboration between the Wildlife Conservation Society, The Nature Conservancy, and the National Center for Ecological Synthesis at the University of California Santa Barbara. Dr. Edward Game, Lead Scientist for The Nature Conservancy’s Asia Pacific region. Webinar Abstract: Conservation planning is fundamentally about making important decisions: What do we want to conserve? Where should we do it? How should we do it? What resources will it take? How will we know we have done it? During this webinar, Craig Groves and Edward Game will explain how conservation planning can inform key decisions during NBSAP implementation. The speakers will provide an overview of the conservation planning road map they have developed that integrates strategic and spatial planning. They will focus on tools and methods that answer important questions related to NBSAP implementation. The speakers will begin the webinar by explaining the conservation planning context, which includes a consideration of the purpose and scope of the plan, decisions to be made, constraints, and key audiences. They will also explore how to clarify the short and long-term objectives and outcomes of a planning effort by developing and implementing a prioritized set of strategies and actions. The speakers will highlight the use of evidence-based theories of change and consequence tables as two important tools. Finally, the speakers will provide a series of recommendations for how the implementation of conservation plans and NBSAPs, in particular, can be improved. The webinar material is based on their new book Conservation Planning: Informed Decisions for a Healthier Planet (2016).
