The first week of the “Introduction to Resilience for Development” MOOC kicked off with a highly motivating webinar, titled “The power to change the Earth system? The Anthropocene from a personal viewpoint” and presented by Dr. Sarah Cornell, a global change researcher at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University. The session sparked the interest of participants, who submitted dozens of questions covering a broad range of topics.
In the course room, on the Conservation Training platform, Lesson 1 introduced concepts such as the “Anthropocene”, “social-ecological systems” and “ecosystem services”. It also stressed the urgent need of living within planetary and social boundaries. At the same time, there was much activity in all three discussion threads posted in the forum, with participants engaging in debates about a variety of issues.
