The Regional Training Workshop on UNDP E-Learning Course on Protected Area Systems: Management & Design helped protected areas practitioners and policy-makers from coastal west-Africa to better understand how to implement the CBD Secretariat’s Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) in the context of their countries.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Institute of Francophonie and Sustainable Development (IFDD), and the Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation in West-Africa (PRCM) co-hosted the workshop in Saly, Senegal from 10 – 12 May 2016.
The workshop encouraged participants to pay due regard to the social, economic and environmental costs and benefits of various options. In addition, participants were encouraged to consider the use of appropriate technologies, source of finance and technical cooperation.
Participants endorsed that technology supported learning offers tremendous potential to address the capacity development needs of a wide range of beneficiaries in developing countries, reduces costs, and reaches a wider audience.
