The webinar discusses about integration of protected areas into landscape management.
Protected areas are often viewed as islands of biodiversity — they are managed as isolated units, separate from the surrounding landscape and seascape. In addition, other sectors, such as agriculture, forestry and energy, rarely take into account the goals of protected areas. As a result, isolated, fragmented and threatened protected areas will be less able to provide the ecosystem services upon which humans depend. If protected areas are to fulfill their biodiversity objectives, and to help us achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, they must be fully integrated into the landscape, seascape and key sectors.
