Presentation: Applying Resilience Thinking to National Biodiversity Plans - the South African Experience

This presentation described the process of the preparation of the 2015 South Africa NBSAP. It talked about a landscape approach for creating partnerships across landscapes and seascapes to conserve, restore and sustainably use biodiversity, while enabling sustainable economic development, rural development, job creation and livelihoods. At the same time, the document included several strategic objectives that focus on resilience. These include enhancing the management of biodiversity assets and their contribution to the economy, rural development, job creation and social well-being; investing in ecological infrastructure enhance resilience and to ensure benefits to society; and mainstreaming biodiversity considerations into policies, strategies and practices of a range of sectors, among others.

The presentation was delivered during Week 2 of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) "Introduction to Resilience for Development: Applying Resilience Thinking to National Biodiversity Plans" (23 January through 12 February 2018).
