How effective are NBSAPs as a CBD implementation tool? Side event at COP 13 in Cancun, Thursday 15 December 2016 at 1.15.:Place: Youth Group Meeting Room Sunrise Building, Second Floor.

National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) is the primary framework for CBD implementation at national level. Aichi Target 17 calls on countries to revise and update their NBSAPs by 2015 to provide for implementation of the other Aichi Targets. More than 100 have done that so far. How have they done this? How politically and legally committed are the NBSAPs? Have they managed to take the economic sectors on board to address the underlying causes of biodiversity loss? And do they also deal with implementation of the other biodiversity related conventions? These are among the questions that will be discussed at this side event on the basis of a general assessment of the post 2010 and specific experiences of countries in NBSAP preparation.
