Draft Biodiversity Status Maps for Your 6NR – Uganda

At the beginning of the 6NR process, we challenged Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity to double the number of maps used from your 5NR to your 6NR. Are you on track to meet this challenge? We have exciting news for you!  Using the UN Biodiversity Lab, and the global datasets available within it, we created 18 draft biodiversity status maps for your country.

Mainstreaming Biodiversity Into Uganda’s National Development Plan

In Uganda, the government uses the National Development Plan (NDP) planning framework to achieve medium and long-term development goals in country. All sectors have to mainstream their sectoral plans and programmes into the NDP. The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action (NBSAP) has also been mainstreamed into the NDP, so that it is part of and contributes to the country’s medium and long-term development process in Uganda. Communicating the value of NBSAPS outside of the Ministry of the Environment was critical to the success of the project.

Managing Impacts Of Oil & Gas Exploration In Murchison Falls National Park: Seeking A Critical Balance Between Uganda’s Development Needs And Conservation

In Uganda, commercially viable quantities of oil and gas resources have been discovered in the country’s Albertine Rift region. The country is excited by this discovery and is fast tracking exploration and development efforts. It expects to earn foreign exchange from the export of petroleum products. About 50 percent of the discoveries are found in Murchison Falls National Park.
